Years 3 to 6 - Mathematics
Subject description
This program builds knowledge and skills in all number operations, fractions and decimals, space and measurement. There is a strong emphasis on the basic number facts, including the times tables, as students with well-developed number sense find maths much easier. Students learn to solve problems of both a routine and more complicated nature. A solid foundation in mathematics is essential prior to the commencement of secondary school studies.
Advanced Programs (years 3 to 6)
- Extension level for English - Comprehension, grammar and parts of speech.
- Extension level for Mathematics - Key topics and problem solving.
- General Ability - Problem solving and vocabulary.
- Writing - Narrative, recounts, etc.
Notes
- Free introductory assessment in literacy and numeracy
- Some classes have a mixture of students and years. Each child works on their individual program at their level. Students develop skills and proceed to harder exercises.
- Homework given to all students aims to consolidate and help develop mastery of the content given in class.
- No computers are used-- Students write their responses.

- Open Foundation Mathematics - Weekly workshops, 2 hour classes. Non calculator and calculator skills. All topics covered.
